the royal stone castle of Loket has been towering on a granite rock spur for more than 800 years. It was probably founded as a border fortress with an exceptional location on a meander of the Ohře River. The castle served kings, Schlick family, lords of Plavno, Loket townsmen, and in the 19th and 20th centuries also as a town jail. It was opened to the public shortly after 1989.
