For sale is a used, one of the top reel-to-reel tape recorders:
AKAI GX-747 Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder Deck
This was AKAI's best R2R recorder. Unfortunately,
the cover in front of the head block is broken into several pieces. The cover is not involved with the operation of the recorder; just there for cosmetic purpose. The cover is broken and easily falls off. I'll take it off and pack with the recorder. I think its replacement can always be located on eBay.
There are typical wear and nicks, including a notch in the wood side panel as shown. Overall, it is not really terrible.
Operationally, it powers up OK, and display on. However, the controls on front panel do not respond at all. I can hear motor running inside but it does not engage in PLAY, FF or RW etc. I somehow can bend the right handle on Cue/Review (see the red circle in one of the pictures). I am not sure if that is broken or just normal. So, it definitely needs repair/service. I am selling this recorder for repair/parts only.
My lower than typical sold price reflects the condition it's in.
The recorder is multivoltage. It's set for 120V now, but can be changed to 220V too.
The sale includes the GX747 shown in pictures only; no tape, reels, manual, cables, or any other accessories.
I'll pack well and ship worldwide (if possible). The recorder is very heavy (over 60 pounds packed), therefore not cheap to ship. Local cash and carry is great.
