A fine example of the popular Princess tucked gowns & Princess slips
dating to 1908. Mostly seen in fine cotton lawn & lace
insertion dresses/gowns. (Arms are partially stuffed for photo's)
Now, being offered for your consideration:
A Princess dress/gown of soft & supple, aged emerald green.
The dress features a most striking colour variation with a ecru
lace high neck, yoke, upper back & lower sleeves. The colours are
reminiscent of Edith Wharton's character, "Lily Bart" wearing her
green ensemble in "The House of Mirth." A leaf, Fleur de lis decorated
trim, in metallic graduated hues adorn this lovely dress throughout.
Graduated green gabardine upper over-sleeves sleeves are lined in
polished cotton & intact. This lower ecru lace sleeve connects to the cotton.
The lower sleeves were once lined in silk but now only remnants of the
silk remain. (Please see photo's). Silk remnant also at the neck & yoke.
Can be worn without the silk lining.
The rich green gabardine is still supple & sturdy and ready for someone to
breathe life into her again. In the photo's you will see the age holes here &
there. Some of these may be due to improper storage where possibly mouse
nips may have done some of the damage. There are some age marks, age
stains that do not detract from the dress/gown. The gown has many gathers in
the chest area & the waist which could possibly be let out for increased
measurements.
I find a deep approx. 2 1/2 in. hem where material could be salvaged.
Some closures are loose & some are missing.
This gown is worthy of restoration & someone to love her again.
Enjoy!
