You are invited to bid on a super Royal Doulton Seriesware Plate titled Dr. Johnson At The Cheshire Cheese 1776 - 84. Featuring the famous literary character Samuel Johnson who compiled the first major dictionary of the English language and who was apparently a regular at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn in Fleet Street in London. The Famous Inn is still there today. This plate is in the rarer whieldon glaze finish - a superb vintage, fine quality plate and in excellent condition.

I am selling several other Doulton Seriesware plates in separate listings and will combine postage if anyone is interested in more than 1 item.

Condition: This plate is in excellent used pre-owned condition & I can see no chips, nicks, cracks or hairlines but there is some clean glaze crazing (please see photos).

Backstamp: The appropriate Royal Doulton printed lion backstamp can be found on the rear of the plate along with some handwritten pattern numbers that are hard to decipher. Impressed into the base is the word DOULTON and the numbers 5.15, which would indicate a date of manufacture for May 1915.

The plate is @26 cms (@10.25 inches) in diameter and I estimate the parcel will weigh @1200g when packed.

It may be boring but it is important information so please take the time to read the following.

Sometimes a small portion of the P&P quote is to cover my packing costs which usually includes plenty of bubble wrap and protective biodegradable foam packing peanuts. Ebay unfortunately charge commission on these postage costs, which therefore, on occasions, will be added to the total P&P costs - particularly on heavier and therefore more expensive to post items.

For very large & heavy items I usually use Yodel couriers but for all other items I always use Royal Mail as they are a LOT more reliable than their so called cheaper competitors. I try to offer FREE UK P&P on all my listings and all Overseas postage is through Ebay's Global Shipping Program. Please rate your feedback based on the price you were charged compared to the actual cost of the postage they charge (taking into account the 10% Ebay commission) & not simply because you felt the postage costs were high. I am not personally responsible for the prices / fees and do not intentionally overcharge on postage. If when I have posted the parcel I feel I have overcharged I will refund some of postage accordingly.

Please also note that the majority of the items I list are old / used and may therefore show signs of use - including minor wear & tear and / or scuffs or marks. I will however try to accurately describe all that I can see and the photos on the listing do form an important part of the item description. Please do not expect an item to be "as new" unless it is described as such. There are often additional photos available on request that I am happy to send to any email address provided.

If you are still happy to proceed and subsequently have any problem at all with any part of the transaction, please get in touch with me through Ebay before leaving feedback & I will try to do all that I can to help resolve any issues.

If you have any other questions or require more photos, please get in touch through the Ebay messages option on the listing. I will reply as soon as I can but please be patient.

Many thanks and Best of luck !
