1976 100 watt Hiwatt SA212R Custom Built. Tested/initialled by DR presumably David Reeves (see photo).

This is a rare item with a unique sound. Almost one of a kind really.
Point to point hand wired all original except where noted.
I bought this in 1977 from Kalua music in Toronto. It is labelled as Kalua #1 as it was a rental which I purchased from them after renting it for a year.

This amp is quite loud but fortunately it has the ability to overdrive to heavy distortion levels and feed back at low volume.
I owned a 1980 50 watt Hiwatt Bulldog and it had to be cranked to get the same level of distortion and still never sounded as good as the SA212R.

Pedals in front of this beauty are a dream. Guess Gilmour and Townsend knew what they were doing.

I never gigged with this amp. It stayed at home or went to occasional jams and I treated it well but it's just too big and powerful to be of use to me at this point in my life. I have smaller amps for recording and that are easier to carry to a jam.
It has been with me for more than 45 years and it feels like I'm selling one of my kids.

Only modifications are a professionally added bias switch (which is removable-see photo) to allow newer tubes to be used that cannot handle the high plate voltage like the older tubes can and I also replaced the electrical plug as the original was damaged. The rest is untouched since purchase except power tubes that occasionally needed replacement.

As a heads up there is no reverb can in this cab.

It's hard to see but in the top right corner of the face plate the Bakelite is chipped and around one of the brilliant inputs there is some slight cracking from being bumped but neither affect the operation and both have been like that since I bought it.

Cabinet is hand built Russian (not 'Baltic') birch. Hand dyed. Side handles are for a Marshall 4x12 cab.

I built the 2x12 cabinet the Hiwatt 212 is sitting on top of as well and it has the two Vintage 30s in it. The combination is unreal. Loud enough to fill a small club unmiked.

A new DR103 head costs $6k CAD and you get no vintage Partridge trannys or parts with it therefore no vintage sound and tone.
You also don't get a cabinet or drivers with a new head either. You get all of that with this unit!

This amp sounds like no other Hiwatt I've heard, owned, or played through. It really is unique.

These early 2000s Celestion drivers alone cost over $700 CAD currently at L&M.

I have two early 2000s Celestion Vintage 30s and two early 1980s Celestion 12T-75s I will swap out if these drivers are not to your liking.
