The platter clip holds your BSR platter/turntable securely to the main unit whilst allowing it to spin freely

The original BSR platter clip is either chrome/stainless or black metal. They are a good design but for their purpose they are a little over engineered (not a criticism you can normally level at BSR!). This is not a problem until you need to remove them to service the parts that sit under the platter. Then even if you're being very careful it's all too easy for your screwdriver or pliers to slip whilst attempting to remove the clip which often scratches either the paintwork or the central aluminium 'Crafted in Great Britain' disc. The same risk is present when you try and refit the clip with your pliers. This risk leads to people not refitting the platter clip until they are 100% finished with the service or restoration and inevitably some get lost

With our record player restorations we used to carefully remove the platter clips and then fit a temporary plastic clip we developed for use in the workshop. It's plastic so won't scratch anything, needs nothing more than finger pressure to install and remove and so protects the paintwork/brightwork. We often work on the underneath of the turntable by turning it 180 degrees and we soon noticed how strong the clips were, easily holding a big bulky UA14 platter in place whilst totally upside down, so we started fitting them permanently and now we're passing on their ease of fitting and general usefulness to the public

They come in 2 colours, we find the grey clips work best visually with the early non-black BSR decks and the black clips work best with the later, ubiquitous black decks of the late 60 and 70s. They are both the same design, it's just the colour that is different. See photos, look carefully, they are very discreet

package includes:

1 x plastic platter clip (black or grey)

note 1: these clips are tough plastic, but they'll never outlive the original metal clips. I would say our most used plastic platter clip has been fitted and removed around 30-40 times without any problems, but if you intend to use it more then you do so at your own risk

note 2: if you have a portable record player that is constantly being carried on its side (so the deck is vertical) I can't see how our plastic clip would fail but it may do so if in any doubt please use the original metal platter clip
