DESCRIPTION:  Particularly nice, original rare antique CIVIL WAR / ANTEBELLUM PERIOD Carte de Visite of the English poet LORD BYRON, as shown. 

Carte de Visite photos were popular during the Civil War period, both by military men and also by civilians. Carte de Visites were the most popular format during the war years, and including military and political leaders in your CdV album was very popular. This was the best way to collect and display the celebrities of the day, without having the various other methods we have today. 

This is an especially great addition to an album, and a subject not often seen.

While a significant figure during the Civil War, his period pictures are quite scarce.
