Please take the time to read through my entire item description and view all the photographs.  I consistently prepare accurate and detailed descriptions and provide clear close up photographs for all my listings.  The aforementioned notwithstanding, note the photos are still the biggest and most important part of this or any description.  As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words".  If you would like additional photos or have specific questions just message me and I will respond ASAP.

For your consideration is this authentic WWI USGI United States Navy enlisted men’s BLUE wool flannel undress jumper service uniform top shirt.  The shirt was manufactured by “NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY”.

The U. S. Navy undress blue service uniform was a general duty working uniform made of wool for the enlisted man that was worn in temperate zone weather conditions.  The "undress" designation indicated that the uniform was not meant for dress wear.  Undress uniforms were worn with or without the neckerchief depending on the Sailor's job designation.  The jumper was simplified in construction and not adorned with white piping.

The shirt weighs approximately 1.0 pound by itself and is made out of dark blue (almost looks black) wool flannel.  The shirt size appears to me to be a “small size” but I cannot confirm my assumption since the original garment size-tag has long been removed.  Nevertheless, to help illustrate the proportionate size of the shirt, I included several description photos depicting the uniform shirt laid flat and measured with a yard stick to provide a general overview of the approximate measurements for size and fitment.  The noted measurements are as follows; from armpit to armpit (across the chest) the ruler measures between approximately 16.50” and 17.0”, measured from the bottom hem to the top of the collar the ruler indicated approximately 22.0", measured across the mid-section the shirt measures approximately 16.0" wide and lastly measured from the armpit to the end of the sleeve the shirt sleeve measured between approximately 15.50” and 16.0" in length.  Refer to description photos #19, #20, #21 and #22 to confirm the aforementioned measurements and for more details about what I have described.

The shirt remains in overall good condition with a few noted scattered areas that have extremely tiny moth holes and one .75” long moth damage hole located on the right sleeve near the armpit as is clearly depicted in description photos #1, #3, #12, #13, #14 and #19.  The attempted to photograph the few noted tiny moth holes I found and those are depicted in description photos #15, #16, #17 and #18.  Due to the noted small areas of minor moth damage the uniform shirt is priced accordingly at a reasonable opening bid.  Please refer to the description photos to confirm the noted moth damage and for more details about what I have described.

The shirt retains its original sewn tag that is located under the back collar-flap as depicted in description photos #10 and #11.  The label provides (4) four lines of printed information that read as follows below.  Note the Sailor’s name and “Rate” have faded with age and are barely noticeable.  To that end, I CANNOT make out what was once written on the tag’s two dotted lines.  Refer to description photo #11 for more details about what I have described.

“MANUFACTURED BY”

“NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY”

“Name………..”                                         (Name no longer legible)

“Rate……….”                                           (Assigned rate no longer legible)

As you can easily confirm in the photos, despite the noted scattered moth damage the uniform shirt remains in overall good condition especially for being well-over 100 years old.  The dark blue wool flannel fabric retains the original deep color (almost looks black) and there are lose seams or stains.  Refer to all the description photos to confirm the condition of the shirt and for more details about what I have described.

Note; since this shirt will be folded up to ship it will most likely become wrinkled while in transit.

The overall condition of the shirt is good and consistent with genuine age and use.  Any WWI U. S. Navy memorabilia collector and/or reenactment enthusiast would be pleased to add this vintage U. S. Navy undress uniform wool flannel uniform shirt to their militaria collection.
