2011 WILDLIFE CONSERVATION SERIES #4 - BLACK FOOTED FERRET

It happened so quickly. For centuries, we ruled the grasslands. Those who walk on two feet revered us as magical because they would only spy us in the moonlight.

Then a new breed of two-footers arrived. They drove powerful hooves across the land and ripped our kingdom open with great wooden claws. And just as the world began to grow anew, they took aim at our cherished prairie dog. The two-footers rejoiced in victory, but we lay starving, weak and dying.

Many believed we were lost to the winds-forever; until a small colony was discovered in a field far away. Generations had passed. The two-footers had become wiser, finally understood nature’s perfect orchestration-and we began to experience the same care and affection normally lavished on our domesticated cousins. But this attention has a new, higher intention-to return us to the great Canadian prairie; our cherished and forgotten homeland.
