Mettlach Germany mark -

Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Made in Germany 1887 - 1909 mark

Villeroy & Boch Pottery of Mettlach was founded in 1836 when two competing potteries merged. Francois Boch and his sons began making pottery in France in 1748. They moved to Mettlach in 1809 and merged with competitor Nicolas Villeroy in 1836. The firm made many types of wares, including the famous Mettlach steins. Collectors can be confused because although Villeroy & Boch made most of its pieces in the city of Mettlach, Germany, the company also had factories in other locations. The dating code impressed on the bottom of most pieces makes it possible to determine the age of the piece. Additional items, including steins and earthenware pieces marked with the famous castle mark or the word Mettlach, may be found in the Mettlach category. Villeroy & Boch also made mosaic ware and chromolith ware. For more information, explore our identification guides for Villeroy & Boch, Mettlach steins, majolica, and other German pottery.

Antique pre-loved condition. Displays nicely. No deep cracks, chips, or deep scratches. Noted fine crazing on the saucer without flaking. Scuff may be evident as to be expected but does not deter from its beauty. Please see Item Specifics.
