Antique and vintage items make nicer than new gifts

Item

Carlton Ware was one of the world's most innovative and imaginative potteries in the 1930s and beyond and this 2-cup tea pot is a wonderful example of their creativity.

The tea pot, in green, is from Carlton's much-collected Embossed Range. The pattern is "Apple Blossom"... a pretty relief moulded representation of hand-painted pink apple blossom on a branch with a fresh green leafy background. The attention to detail is delightful.

This 'Australia Design' version of the Carlton Ware back stamp was used from 1935 until c.1960

Note: We are also listing a Royal Winton-Grimwades 5-cup 'Tiger Lily' tea pot.

Condition

All our items are pre-owned and usually range between 10 and 210 years old, so they inevitably (and reassuringly) show some signs of age and use, which we always do our best to reflect in our pictures.

Although some 80 years old, this charming little tea pot has survived rather well, given that tea pots of this age rarely make it because the spouts and lids are so vulnerable. It is free of chips or cracks except on the inner rim where there is a hairline and a tiny nick (see images). Thankfully, both are well out of sight when the lid is in position and it displays well (see images). There is also some light crazing in the glaze, which is typical of this range and its age.

PRICING

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre and rareness or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!

You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices and the current market. We are always willing to consider realistic offers. In this case, the minor damage to the inner rim is reflected in the asking price.

SHIPPING

We have a 100pc success rate for over a decade in successfully shipping fragile antiques and collectables across the UK and the wider World. We only charge what the Post Office and couriers charge us and subsidise the cost of packing materials.

International shipping? Since Covid, we have started to use eBay's Global Shipping Programme for packages over 2kg because it has proved to be competitive and reliable. However, it's possible that this package will be light enough to be sent using the Royal Mail's Airmail service and we have priced it accordingly.
