2015 $10 FINE SILVER COIN WINTER SCENE

Frozen fingers and toes, thrills and spills, squeals and laughter. A Canadian snowfall brings with it the lifelong joy of tobogganing. This coin in the Royal Canadian Mint’s popular Winter Scene theme celebrates one of Canadians’ most beloved winter pastimes.

The reverse design by Canadian artist Louise Martineau features an idyllic winter scene of three children tobogganing behind their house. In the foreground, a child dressed warmly pulls another child on a simple wooden toboggan across a small gully in a snowdrift. With the snowy hillside curving gently upward on the left side of the image and a view of a frozen lake and tree-lined mountains in the far distance, the image conveys the gentle rolling hilly terrain familiar to so many Canadians. Just behind the children, another child is captured mid-tumble, a small sled flying high into the air. The children are backgrounded by a red snow-covered house. The brightly coloured scene conveys fun, momentum, and the comfort of knowing that, cold as one gets during these outdoor games, the warmth of home is always nearby.
