Rare midcentury 1960s designer teak and rosewood sideboard by Robert Macarther for Vanson

This elegant and rare Vanson sideboard was designed by Robert Macarthur, and was designed in 1963 to match and rival G Plan’s hugely popular, Scandinavian influenced pieces.

Although a large item of furniture, its design is thoughtful and accomplished, from the gently curved ends to the signature square drawer handles. And of course, sideboards offer masses of useful storage in the modern home.

Apart from the curved ends, other luxury features include a nicely finished veneered back, rosewood veneers to the doors and a sycamore lined interior.

This designer piece was launched at the Manchester furniture exhibition in August 1963 along with a matching dining table and chairs (also available on a separate listing) priced at £137 15 shillings - around 20%-25% premium above than standard models by G Plan and McIntosh of the era. Vanson was one of the leading manufacturers for Heal’s.

It is in excellent condition and has been lovingly taken care of, remaining in the same smoke and pet free home since it was originally purchased.
