"During the Spanish-American War, the Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments played a crucial role alongside Colonel Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders during the assault of San Juan Hill. This battle took place in Cuba in June 1898. Remarkably, five members of the 10th Cavalry Regiment earned the Medal of Honor for their bravery and contributions during this conflict.
The Buffalo Soldiers, African American troops, fought side by side with their white counterparts in an integrated effort. Together, they endured the blistering heat, rain, and shared both peril and discomfort. Their combined efforts forged a victory that belonged to all of them, not just to Roosevelt or the Buffalo soldiers alone."
