16mm FEATURE FILM: THE KLANSMAN

US 1974

dir Terence Young

with Lee Marvin, Richard Burton, Cameron Mitchell

An unsubtle Hollywood movie version of a 1967 book of the same name by William Bradford Huie. In a small southern US town has just been rocked by a tragedy: a young woman has been violently raped. The racist white townfathers immediately place the blame on a young black man. "The men in white sheets" aren't intent on giving him a fair and impartial trial, so the accused man goes on the run as a lynch mob hunts him down. The sheriff (L Marvin) tries to keep the peace.

Richard Burton (!) of all people plays a liberal Alabama landowner, and is visibly intoxicated in most of his scenes. Reportedly in later years he didn't remember making this film.

Run time approx 1 hr 41. This is the UK theatrical version and there may well have been cuts. Colour is good.  Film is dirty and has minor wear, could do with a clean, otherwise good condition. no VS. 3 reels
