This SET 5 ANTIQUE CHINESE BOWLS in Blue & White is
in very good condition (see photos). Condition status includes minimal
normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing, and fretting.
This item is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had
no apparent repairs or restorations. This item is sold as is, as described.
Please see all photos which are a part of this description. Please note that
this item is photographed in natural light; shadows that may appear as
irregularities are not necessarily chips, cracks, or discoloration.
These Bowls are in the
condition as found when acquired over thirty years ago- they have not been washed
or cleaned. Each bowl has small Chinese characters etched into the bottom,
probably to identify the bowl’s owner.
It is noted that old Chinese
porcelain is not inherently "perfect"- pieces were still wheel thrown
in this era and as such have wheel thrown marks, firing marks, and little dents
in the pottery which are glazed over. This style includes production techniques
whereby enamel glazes are applied and worked in stages upon a modeled pottery form and fired several times in a kiln. This is not damage- this is part of the
history of antique Chinese porcelain and how it was made.
