This is a sale for a large cast plaster test piece by Alan Wallwork for a number of lamp bases that he produced from “The Studios” in Marnhull and in Abbotsford Dorset. This appears to have been hand moulded and painted to test out the proportions, design and colour before throwing in clay. I have a lamp base that incorporates the design of the bottom half. It is not marked but I got this from a friend who lived in Marnhull who bought it from Alan Wallwork who lived in the village at the time. There are a number of scratches, chips and losses as the plaster is a soft material. There is some felt stuck to the bottom which may conceal a mark. Please look carefully at the photographs which are the description and show you exactly what you are getting and its condition.

squifferjoe (484Turquoise Star) I can now add that it appears Alan Wallwork gave up with lampbase production by 1970, so this test piece is likely to be from the late 60's. Further evidence of this can be seen in the modelling techniques and design features are similar to his work from that period. It is possible there would have been another separate piece that would have fitted on the top to complete it.
