- We are pleased to offer for sale a set of three (3) publicity stills from the following movie
- ------------------------
- A western classic about Billy The Kid --"The Outlaw" -by famed filmmaker Howard Hughes as the director and released in Feb 1943 Howard Hawks was also mentioned as a co-director but received no credit for his works
- These are the original publicity stills that were attached to the film completed in 1941 but found difficulty passing the Hollywood Production code due to the film's focus on Jane Russell's breast and the "underwire bra" invented by Hughes
- It was a censored western that is part of Hollywood folklore and was talked about for years
- The film was later picked up by United Artist for distribution and proved to be a success in 1946
- We purchased from a former Hollywood TV executive that was raised in the motion picture business and had family associated with RKO Studios which Howard Hughes owned and acquired distribution for the film in 1948
- We were told he acquired these stills when working for RKO/KHJ Channel 9 in Los Angeles in late 1960's thru 1970's
- By 1968 the film grossed about $20 Million dollars
- The film is remembered as Jane Russell's breakthrough role as a sex symbol and Hollywood Icon
- The Outlaw is an early example of a psychological western
