Hello friends,

This is a new Davis Brothers knife, a Wood Carving detail Knife. It is a # 15 pattern in a little larger sized rendition, for those wanting a longer reach, or for larger carvings. This pattern has a straight edge, with a finely pointed tip, and was made with a special Quilted Maple handle. It will quickly become a favorite and you will want it readily at hand. I have a similar one in my knife rack ready to use any time.  The smaller blades are actually more challenging to make, but very rewarding to use.  It will quickly become a favorite and you will want it readily at hand. It was hand forged by a carver, for carvers, right here on the Pacific Northwest Coast.  Davis Bros., well known for high quality hand forged NW Coast style woodcarving tools, will make a limited number of these little knives.  We make a wide selection of Crook or Crooked knives, Detail knives and Hook knives, as well as Chip Carving and Whittling knives.  Detail knives  are used in accompaniment with crook knives, as well as chip carving and other  stock removal knives.

SAFETY FIRST! : This blade is extremely sharp. Please use caution when removing from the packaging.  Always be aware of where  you are cutting, and do not put hands, fingers or other parts of your body in the path of the blade.  Always wear a cut-resistant carving glove on the hand not holding the knife.  And please keep this knife safely away from children.

AUCTION DETAILS: I make 5-7 knives each week and put them up for auction on Saturday evening starting at 5:00 PM. Pacific time. The auctions are staggered, with one every 10 minutes, to allow customers to view each one in sequence. The previous week's auctions are ending at the same time, with 10 minutes between to allow last minute bidding on each one. In addition to the auctions, each knife has a "Buy It Now" price to allow immediate purchase. The "Buy It Now" option ends for each knife when a bid is placed on it.

WORKMANSHIP:  Each knife is unique and hand crafted, with no automated processes used in the more than 30 machining, forging and woodworking tasks for each one.  Some very fine tool marks may be visible on the knives. I do not attain absolute machine-like perfection, but strive to combine art, beauty and utility.  The look and feel of this tool when held is beautiful, smooth, and inspires the work at hand.

BLADE: It was made using 1095 high carbon blade steel, ground to shape then forged, refined and hardened.  It  was then tempered to keep a durable, keen edge and is extremely sharp. The blade profile has a straight cutting edge which makes it relatively easy to sharpen.

HANDLE: The handle is Quilted Maple, from a piece  with distinctive and beautiful curling interlocked  iridescent grain patterns with a creamy honey color.  This is from a board bought years ago from a local specialist logger, who sought out and milled unusual wood. A traditional handle wood in the Northwest, Maple is incredibly tough and hard combined with beauty. This handle feels great in your hand, and is fairly robust for hard work when needed. It is finished with hand rubbed natural Shellac and Carnauba Wax.

CONSTRUCTION:  This knife is 8 3/8" overall, with a  2 3/8" long blade that is 7/16" wide before tapering to a fine point.  The cutting edge is straight overall and comes to a fine point at the tip. The blade is set with epoxy and further secured with two bronze pins.

CARVING CHARACTERISTICS: This knife will be so useful it will end up on your workbench close to hand most of the time. It feels great and is a delight in the hand. The blade has a fine tip and is excellent for creation and cleanup of detail work.  With the straight edge enabling accurate notching and slicing, it is ideal for general hobby work. It works well at the end of carving to get the final details cleaned up. The blade has plenty of strength for these tasks, but should not be used for prying. Please be careful not to damage the very fine tip. For best performance, when sharpening this tool both sides should be sharpened.

SHIPPING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: I charge only what the Postal Service fee is on an average shipment for that weight, with no additional handling fees. I have several auctions running each week, and will gladly combine shipping to save you money. Wait for the combined invoice if you have multiple purchases/wins.   I offer a 30 day return policy and will personally work to resolve any issues.  I strive for Quality and Customer Satisfaction.
