Notable Features
  • This Antique Vintage Deco Retro necklace pendant, meticulously handcrafted from 14k gold and weighing 3.7 grams, represents a stunning piece of early 20th-century jewelry design. The pendant measures 1.10 inches by 0.75 inches and features an elegant combination of diamonds, emeralds, and onyx, set in a filigree framework that showcases the exceptional skill and artistic flair of the period.
  • The design intricately incorporates a swivel bale, allowing the pendant to move freely and catch the light from various angles, enhancing the display of its precious gemstones. The central feature is a beautifully filigreed setting, which forms a delicate and ornate backdrop for the gemstones, typical of the Deco Retro style known for its detailed and refined aesthetics.
  • The pendant showcases a striking arrangement of materials: the deep black of the onyx provides a stark, glossy contrast to the vibrant green of the emeralds and the bright sparkle of the diamonds. Onyx, often used in Art Deco designs for its bold visual impact, forms the perfect canvas for the emeralds and diamonds to stand out. The emeralds add a touch of color and life, while the diamonds contribute a timeless elegance and brilliance, making the pendant not only visually captivating but also rich in varied gemstone textures.
  • Each gemstone is carefully set to maximize its visibility and impact. The diamonds and emeralds are likely placed to highlight or frame the onyx, creating a harmonious and balanced composition that draws the eye and accentuates the pendant's luxurious appeal.
  • Handmade with meticulous attention to every detail, this diamond, emerald, and onyx pendant exemplifies the creativity and craftsmanship characteristic of the Deco Retro period. The filigree work, combined with the sophisticated choice of gemstones and the functionality of the swivel bale, reflects a sophisticated understanding of both design and material, making this pendant a standout piece.

The History

Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s. This was a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes stemming from World War II. These designs reflect an infusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials. Materials used commonly in Retro jewelry are gold, gold alloys, and silver as the wartime put a restriction on the use of platinum. Designs can be masculine, geometric and modern, or softer, more feminine and floral.

The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves appropriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.
