Vintage U.S. WWII 48 Star American Flag Dettra STANTEST Bunting Cotton 3’x5’

This is a 48 star, cotton, US flag made with printed stars, and hand sewn stripes. It was made by the Dettra Flag Co. of Oaks, PA. Labeled "Stantest" it was Dettra's most economical US flag. It was part of Dettra's moderately priced home flag kits. Stantest bunting was introduced in the 1920's and was used until the 1950's. Bunting was discontinued as a result of the addition of the 49th star in 1959.

This flag has been dated 1942-1945 because of the presence of distinctive wartime grommets. This fact clearly identifies the flag as having been produced for the home front market. These flags played an important role in civilian morale.

John Dettra, founded the Dettra Flag Company in 1902 until the acquisition by Annin & Company (the nations oldest and largest flag company), in 1998. Dettra made Stantest bunting for over three decades and while they are not uncommon, pristine examples with wartime grommets (like this example) are extremely rare.

This flag is in excellent condition. There are some wrinkles, but no stains, rips or tears and actually appears to have never been used or displayed.
There is a tiny spot on one star that I believe to be from the manufacturing process and can be seen in one of my photos.

Please see all photos for actual cosmetic condition and feel free to ask questions if you have any.
