A fabulous, statement piece Victorian Whitby Jet & agate brooch.

Huge in size and depth, the jet is beautifully hand carved in swirling multi layers, culminating in a huge bullseye agate cabochon top.

The agate is the classic black with a thick white band across it, to wonderful dramatic effect. Very rare to see one in this size.

The brooch has its original quality silver metal pin plate with tube hinge, pin and 'c' catch (hinge/pin lacks tension but once actually pinned on material, the pin sits securely in 'c' catch).

In good overall antique condition; there is a large conchoidal (shell shaped) fracture to the back of the Whitby Jet, which is not uncommon in this material, at this great age. Many people actually use it as an identifier of genuine Whitby Jet. That said, will not appeal to everyone but the good news is that it is hardly noticeable in wear.

Measurements: 45mm in diameter with a depth of 25mm / the bullseye agate alone is 30mm in diameter and 10mm deep.

Weight: 36.09gms.
