It is working as designed.
There are two small hair line cracks on top part of the handle, it has been stabilised. It does not affect performance.
The hair Styling attachments have unique design feature, when the leveris depressed the the combs retracts.
To attach the units depress the black button on the handle
insert the selected attachment as per arrow and a slight twist.
