For auction is a beautiful hammered copper cigar box manufactured by Wur Hembergische Metallwarefabrik (Germany).  Hammered copper boxes are usually thought of as Art Deco, but this box in my opinion is Art Nouveau.  The manufacture company -WMF, was in existence from about 1866 to the early 1900s.  I suspect the box was made in the 1880s.  The copper box is lined with wood (pine?) and wood forms the bottom of the box.  The box rests on 4 ball feet.  The box is 7 1/2" L x 5 1/2" W x 3" H. It weighs about 2 lbs. The makers mark - Ostrich in a square - is located on the front bottom rail that supports the wood base.  This is a fantastic box for the serious collector.
