For bid is an original circa 1937-1938 portrait photograph of Norma Shearer in her elegant MARIE ANTOINETTE costume with the following inscription and autograph handwritten near the bottom:  "As Marie Antoinette said, it takes more courage to love than to die Norma Shearer."  Written near the lower area of her dress.  Extraordinary publicity photograph measures 13.25 inches tall!  An absolutely classic photograph from the golden days of Hollywood movies.  
Norma Shearer (1902-1983) was a beloved movie star of the 1920's and 1930's.  Marie Antoinette was one of her ICONIC roles.  It was an iconic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM movie role for which she won a Venice Film Festival "best actress award."
