"Men's Club," a pioneering
men's fashion magazine in Japan, played a significant role in popularizing Ivy
Style during the vibrant 1960s thanks, in no small part, to the influence of
Van Jacket founder Kensuke Ishizu. Launched in June 1964, amidst a period of
economic expansion and heightened consumerism, it quickly gained an ardent
following among youthful trendsetters in Tokyo. With its insightful
documentation of American fashion and the captivating street photographs of the
Miyuki-zoku trendsetters, it became a bestseller, leaving an enduring impact on
the nation's fashion landscape. Born from the endeavors of photographer
Teruyoshi Hayashida and editors Shōsuke Ishizu, Toshiyuki Kurosu, and Hajime
Hasegawahe, the film "Take Ivy," and book by the same name, became
seminal works of the Ametora movement. Men's Club is Japan's original authority
on Ivy Style.
