The Story Behind (as
copied from the Hermès
catalog): Marie
Bonnin was inspired by the village where she grew up, amidst the volcanoes of
the Auvergne region in France, to compose this landscape. Conceived in the
style of a game of goose or a maze, the design coils around a group of little
houses with sloping roofs, bordered by small gardens. The spiral gradually
extends through fields and orchards to unfold in a combination of meandering
and speckled motifs evoking mountainsides, valleys, and country lanes. The
artist’s association with Hermès came about through a creative workshop
organized with the Paris School of Decorative Arts. A Travers Champs (“Through
the Fields”) is her second design.
