This outstanding ca. 1840 block corner empire frame with canted face molding is constructed of poplar with lapped joints and square nails and retains a wonderful historic painted surface in crazed chalky white over original black. Measuring 17 3/4" x 13 5/8" overall with 13 7/8" x 9 5/8" reveal and 14 3/8" x 10 1/8" back rabbet opening, it is sturdy and usable with expected edge wear and stable paint. The back has more recent black paper covering as pictured.
