You are bidding on a very fine 4/4 italian violin, labeled Joseph Ceruti filius Joannis Baptistae Cremonensis fecit anno 1853 GC. The instrument was restored and ready to play with grafted scroll, bushed peg-holes, new fingerboard, new ebony set up, new Despiau bridge and new strings. There are old repaired cracks on top, repaired middle seam on the back. No cracks under the bridge.
The violin has an excellent high to medium grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of narrow flamed maple wood with matched sides, neck and scroll. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The varnish of golden amber color remains in excellent condition. The whole length of the violin is 58,9 cm and the back 35,6 cm. The sound is very deep, rich, warm and powerful.
