"Presenting a rarely seen vintage revival tile by H & R Johnson Tiles, circa 1985, which this company created exactly 100 years from when the original antique tile was first manufactured, circa 1885, in Victorian England, and still displays in excellent condition."
A wonderful Victorian floral design of English Daisies nicely enhanced with a very dark Midnight-Blue ground, which brings its poly-chrome floral design to the fore.
But, unlike an original antique version of this same floral design, this vintage tile displays a different Aesthetic Style border, and is printed in brilliant, poly-chrome, colors, including the deep, dark, solid-blue ground, and the Pink & Green hues added to the petals of the Daises...something an antique Victorian transfer-printed tile simply would not have...as they would have all been hand-tinted, specifically the dark-blue ground, which would have been very expensive, and difficult, to do.
This tile's floral design is very typical of the transfer-printed tiles popular in the 1880s, as can be seen by comparing with the tiles of the popular tile makers of Victorian times, like Sherwin and Cotton, and The Decorative Art Tile Co, and T & R Boote, whose biscuit grip pattern is often found on matching copies of this same floral design, and who often sold blank tiles to other tile printers.
In the existing antique tiles with this same design, their reverse sides, or versa, display a T & R Boote patterned grip...and some are embossed with the initials, "W. W.," which could possibly represent a Mr. William Wood, who was making such tiles during this same time.

Condition: Excellent.
This tile was reclaimed from an original wall installation and professionally cleaned of all traces of the original mortar. Its "Verso," is very clean, free of smoke and soot stains, and impressed with the proper maker's marks.
This vintage tile displays as well as it originally did, when it was first installed in 1980's somewhere in some English home.
