History:
Caliber 5206A is an automatic movement featuring day and date functions, manufactured by Daini Seikosha for Seiko Lord Matic watches from 1970 to 1972. It was succeeded by Caliber 5216A, which introduced an improved spring-loaded date quickset pawl. As the inaugural movement in the Daini Seikosha 52 series, Caliber 5206A served as the basis for Vanac, Special, and Chronometer movements during the classic period, as well as the updated Seiko 4S series that powered most high-end mechanical watches from Seiko in the 1990s.

This modern movement boasted bi-directional automatic winding (utilizing a conventional reverser instead of Seiko’s Magic Lever technology), hacking seconds, hand-winding capability, quickset day and date adjustments via the crown, and a bilingual day wheel. Operating at 8 Hz (28,800 A/h), it was considered "Hi-Beat" at the time and offered high levels of accuracy. The movement measured 25.60 mm in diameter and was 3.95 mm thick. It featured a "tadpole" style micro adjuster, along with Diashock anti-shock and Diafix oil lubrication.

Caution:
As the second automatic movement family designed by Daini Seikosha, the 52 series had some quirks. Notably, the hand-winding mechanism remains engaged during date setting, causing drag on the crown. Additionally, it is advised to avoid adjusting the calendar near midnight to prevent potential issues.
