Capture remarkable moments in life with the Canon EOS 40D digital camera. With a 10.1-megapixel-resolution sensor, this camera produces crisp, clear photos in many conditions. The resolution will allow you to easily produce an 11 by 14-inch photo without having to perform any resizing or interpolating of the image. The Canon EOS 40D is part of the Prosumer line of Canon EOS DSLR cameras. Built with both serious amateurs and professionals in mind, the 40D has a rugged magnesium alloy camera body. The 40D is compatible with the entire line of Canon accessories and Canon EF and EF-S series of Canon lenses. It can use those lenses designed for digital cameras with the APS-C size of sensor as well as those for full-frame sensors. The 10.1-megapixel resolution of the Canon EOS 40D SLR produces files up to 3888x2592 pixels in both JPEG and Canon’s RAW formats. The camera can store multiple resolutions of RAW and JPEG files on a type 1 or type 2 CF card. Image quality on the Canon EOS 40D is excellent thanks to the Canon DIGIC III processor. In addition, Canon’s auto-white balance produces very reliable results. The automatic setting works well. However, you can choose the white balance mode you prefer or even set it manually. ISO settings run from 100 to 1600 with exposure control in 1/3 stop increments. The camera features 35-zone through the lens full-aperture metering as well as center-weighted metering and partial metering. Drive choices include single shot, continuous focusing, and both low and high-speed continuous shooting modes. A pop-up flash provides automatic mode and controlled manual mode with variable output. The EOS 40D SLR is also compatible with the full line of dedicated Canon EOS flash units. The Canon EOS 40D autofocus system is quick and accurate. The autofocus capabilities are built into the lenses, as is the image stabilization feature. The 40D can be paired with an 18-55-millimeter EF kit lens. A BP-511 rechargeable battery provides power and an available accessory grip can carry two batteries, which allows you to shoot all day. The accessory grip also adds a second vertical shutter-release button. The settings for the Canon 40D are controlled by a rotating dial on the back of the camera along with several buttons. You can view those on the LCD readout on the top of the camera and on the screen on the back. That 3-inch color screen also allows for live viewing of an image preview and also provides for image review. A dial on the top lets you set your choice of shooting modes. Those include program AE, i-contrast, manual, AE Lock, program shift, safety shift, and auto ISO shift. Rubber gaskets on the side of the EOS 40D cover the integrated USB port along with video outputs. You'll also find a PC port for firmware updates and one for a Canon remote release.
