Hi,

I am pleased to present my range of 3d printed catenary portals, based on the BR Mark 1 25kV designs, typically seen on the West Coast Main Line and other lines electrified throughout the 1960s.

These are a replica of the two-track fine lattice portals with ladder legs, typically seen on the WCML.

Dimensions of a made up portal are H: 95mm W: 148mm D: 8mm. The registration arms can be fixed to the portal at the desired height and position. The ones in the photograph represent a typical 2 track setup with the contact wire height of around 75mm.  Additional centre lattice sections to extend portal to 210cm wide available on request.

They are made from 3d printed resin and very easy to assemble with superglue in less than 5 minutes.  They can then be painted as desired. - I use a coat of grey plastic primer then spray on light grey enamel and hand paint the insulators gloss brown with a fine brush.

Picture 3 shows parts for each portal. The registration arms and suspension pulleys must be cut from their print supports. This is best done with small cuticle scissors. The parts can then be carefully de-burred and smoothed with a small file or fine wet and dry paper.

Please note that in an effort to keep these as scale and accurate looking as possible they are delicate and therefore not suitable for children or any environment where they are likely to get knocked about. The registration arms etc are for cosmetic use only, for a working system you will need to solder your own out of 0.6mm brass wire.

All parts are made from "ABS-Like" resin to make them less brittle and more resillient for shipping and handling during assembly etc.   They are however still very fine parts and need to be handled with care.

Parts should be stored away from direct sunlight as this will cause the material to go brittle over time. Once the model is fully painted this will help prevent this.

All items are printed to order, I do not stock pile so please allow upto 48 hours for the items to be printed, cured, packed and dispatched.

The locomotives and track in the photos are to illustrate scale and not included in the sale.

Thanks for looking, and questions, comments or feedback welcome!  Cheers, and happy modelling, Niall
