This gown was worn by legendary British actress Claire Bloom on the U.K. TV program "Camera Three" in 1964, titled - Claire Bloom Reads Poetry.

She wears the gown throughout the entire half hour program while reading various famous poems. The show can be viewed on the website Rarefilmm by typing her name into the search box.

The gown is made of a fine quality emerald green taffeta silk, wide pleated at the waist, and a silk and lace bodice with embroidered flowers. There is also a silk bow at the bottom of the 'V' back. No makers label, but definitely custom made for her from the construction of it.

It was acquired from a lady who was Claire Bloom's former neighbor in Brooklyn Heights during the 1960's, when Bloom owned a home there with then husband Rod Steiger. The lady bought it from their housekeeper. A scanned copy of the letter which was sent to me by the lady's daughter attesting to all of this will be sent to the buyer. In the letter the lady mentions that the housekeeper said it was worn to one of the Oscar ceremonies, and perhaps it was, but I've never found any photos.

It's very well seen in this TV program, worn when she was at the height of her career. She's one of the few actresses of the Golden Age that is still with us.

The gown has almost no flaws except for a small pull in the lace where the bodice meets the skirt, and some minor fraying at the bottom of the hem. Please see all photos for condition. It's been dry cleaned since I acquired it about 3 years ago.

All of the images of her in it pictured here are screen grabs taken from the program on the rarefilmm site.
