1950s-60s 14ct Gold Ring w Solid Cabochon Oval Opaque Coober Pedy Opal O/7½ 5.2g

We date this beautiful ring to the retro mid-century years of the 1950s through 1960s or perhaps a tad later. It is simply stamped 14KT for its 14ct 585 yellow gold fineness. It has a maker’s logo that is Australian in format be untraced.

It has a uniform width curved shank that rises above the finger line to support the top setting that runs in line finger. This is low openwork drum bezel rub claw set with a solid oval flattish cabochon polished opal. The opal has a wonderful opaque mottled colour with bright internal colours of purple, green, gold, copper and blue. These are best seen when worn on the finger. It shows all the characteristics of a solid opal from the Coober Pedy area of South Australia.
