Royal Academy Pictures 1892-1904 (13 volumes), Cassell & Co

On an annual basis for a period covering the turn of the century The Royal Academy, in association with The Magazine of Art, published a lavish and glorious volume containing illustrations on every page of the best work from that year's exhibitions. Typically each volume contains an introduction to the year's "art", 200 full page illustrations with an index to the rear.

A run of thirteen of those volumes are offered for sale here. The 8 volumes 1892-1899 are bound in half leather with gilt titling and decoration to the spine. The remaining 1900-1904 are bound in blue boards with black titling to the spine and black decoration and titling to the front board. For all volumes the binding is tight and straight, the boards vary in condition with a little wear on some than others but all are good + or very good. The endpapers and pages are clean without marks, tears and inscriptions.

A very good set and a comprehensive record of British art at the turn of the century.
