Antique Bisque/porcelain/composition Horsman Doll. 22 inch size. Sleep-eyes.

 

You are looking at an old Horsman bisque doll 22 inch size. Letme start my description of the features and defects I have noticed with thefact that I am not a doll expert. These are from my mothers and aunt’s estate that were antique shop owners and doll collector’s. Let me start with my description of Bisque / porcelain/composite?

A bisque doll or porcelain doll is a doll made partially or wholly out of bisque or biscuit porcelain. Bisque dolls are characterized by their realistic, skin-like matte finish. Colloquially the terms porcelain doll, bisque doll and china doll are sometimes used interchangeably. But collectors,when referring to antique dolls, make a distinction between china dolls, made of glazed porcelain, and bisque dolls, made of unglazed porcelain.

Composition Dolls The composition is generally a mixture of glue mixed with sawdust.

Again I am not a doll expert so I can’t say for certain if bisque or porcelain orcomposite but I’m sure if you are looking at this item you will be able to tell from the pictures. Ask questions before bidding and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

·        Cracking on face near right eye and nose, cracking below mouth and above chin.

·        Small cracking or crazing below right nostril.

·        Blemish on left ear, raw finish.

·        Eyelids open and close properly, eyes also move side to side. Eye lashes are missing some hair more so on right eye.

·        Both arms seem to be in very good condition.Very shiny (which may answer the question of bisque or porcelain composite)  No chips and hands and fingers are chip free.

·        Main cloth body has a rip on right side with metal showing where head is attached. Also metal showing on right leg cloth where it is attached leg on front. Water stain on front of main body.

·        Both legs show cracking and crazing

·        Clothing has not been nor will be cleaned by me. Nice lacing on outer garments and bonnet. Some stains. I’m pretty sure the undergarments and diaper are not original.
