Peter Sallis (1921-2017) was a British actor best known for his work in television, film, and theater. Born in Twickenham, Middlesex, England, Sallis began his acting career in the late 1940s after serving in the Royal Air Force during World War II. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and made his stage debut in 1946.


Sallis gained widespread recognition for his role as Norman Clegg in the long-running British sitcom "Last of the Summer Wine" (1973-2010), which holds the record for the longest-running comedy series in the UK. His portrayal of the mild-mannered and eccentric character earned him a loyal fan base and critical acclaim.


Another significant role in Sallis's career was the voice of Wallace in the popular stop-motion animated series "Wallace and Gromit." Created by Nick Park and Aardman Animations, the series began with the short film "A Grand Day Out" (1989) and continued with "The Wrong Trousers" (1993), "A Close Shave" (1995), and "A Matter of Loaf and Death" (2008). Sallis also lent his voice to the feature film "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" (2005), which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.


Throughout his career, Sallis appeared in numerous stage productions, including "The Wind in the Willows," "The Relapse," and "The School for Scandal." His film credits include "Taste the Blood of Dracula" (1970), "Wuthering Heights" (1970), and "The Incredible Sarah" (1976).


Peter Sallis passed away on June 2, 2017, at the age of 96. His contributions to the world of entertainment, particularly in British television and animation, continue to be celebrated and enjoyed by audiences worldwide.
