Presented is a nice Georgian sterling silver castor from London maker, Samuel Wood. This piece is in a great classical form and displays a stylish ribbed shoulder and a finial on top of the lid.

The piece is marked on the bottom with full English hallmarks: The lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for London, and the date letter B representing 1737. There is also a maker's mark for Samuel Wood. The inside lip of the lid is marked with the lion passant and the same maker's mark.

The caster is in good overall condition. There are multiple splits in the larger pierce-work around the lid. There are pieces missing from all three of these sections of the pierce-work. This can be seen in the photos. The piece also has a few dents below the ribbed midpoint of the piece; this wear is fairly minor. There are no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The lid attaches well and will stay in place when used.

The piece measures about 5 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches diameter at the widest point.

Weight: 123 grams or 4.3 ounces
