The following experiment:
The text of one person is translated into an image by another, without any knowledge of its origin or background. This experiment aims to trace the first impulse, the fixation of the 'in-between.' It starts with reading the text, a blank sheet, and capturing the first inner images that tempt one to pick up a pencil or brush for an initial sketch. The sketch serves as the starting point for translating into the image. Thus, the image is not an illustration of the text, but an attempt to transfer it into another medium. The overarching question concerns us as artists: How is an image created? What is its prehistory, which inner images develop beforehand? At what point does the painted image in the painting process detach from the inner image and become independent? Are holding on and letting go even the roots of creativity?
