Coin was issued to commemorate the bicentenary of the Holey Dollar and Dump in 1813.

These coins from Spanish silver "pieces of eight", were Australia's first official coins 

and worth five shillings and fifteen pence, respectively.

The reverse design depicts a replica of the holey dollar and dump from 1813.

It also features denticles on the obverse (or Queen's head) side which adds character to the dollar coin as we're used to seeing it. 

It also sees the words "1 DOLLAR" appear on the obverse which is not common on the one dollar coin.
