BEE BREAD - natural superfood!

We're a family running a honey business, offering only raw honey collected from the blooming plants in Lithuania's North-eastern region, surrounded by endless wild forests and meadows.

We also offer Bee Bread, a fascinating and nutritious substance created by bees through the fermentation of pollen, primarily used as a food source for young bees and the queen in the hive.

Composition: Bee bread is made from pollen collected by worker bees, which they mix with nectar and bee saliva. Over time, this mixture undergoes fermentation by lactic acid bacteria, partially breaking down the pollen grains to make the nutrients more accessible.

Bee bread can have a range of colours, often reflecting the variety of pollen sources in the area, from shades of yellow, orange, red, brown, to even dark green. The texture can vary from moist and dough-like to dry and crumbly.

Nutritional Content: Bee bread is incredibly nutritious, rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The fermentation process enhances the bioavailability of these nutrients, making them easier for bees to digest and absorb. It is a vital food source for young bees, providing them with the essential nutrients needed for growth and development.

The flavour and aroma of bee bread can vary depending on the flowers from which the pollen was collected. It often has a sweet, floral scent, with a taste that can be somewhat tangy due to the fermentation process.

Health Benefits: Bee bread is known for its potential health benefits, attributed to its rich nutritional profile. It is believed to possess antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and has been utilized in some traditional medicine practices. It contains a wide range of components, such as sugars, polyphenols, vitamins, and free amino acids

Our hives are based in the pristine Lithuanian Northeast region (Rokiskis). The environment is unspoiled, the air is clean (water well suitable for swimming seasons) and well preserved. The source of honey comes from blooming buckwheat plants (the main part) and other mixtures of flora. Honey has been carefully collected and remained unfiltered, unheated, and unpasteurised, which harvest took place in summer 2023.
