Exquisite Antique 1873 Minton Gilded Teacup &
Saucer w Bamboo & Butterflies
This very fine china cup and saucer is unmarked and
has been attributed to one of England’s premier china manufacturers, Minton. We
have handled similar pattern pieces in the distinctive colourway marked with a
Minton impressed factory mark that dated to around the 1870s. The set’s undersides
have a hand written brick red code in the Minton manner. The “Kite”
registration mark dates it to October 1873.
The cup and saucer has a pale mint green ground
with randomly placed, beautifully hand-painted, butterflies with different
coloured wings. The saucer has a relief embossed bamboo stalk and leaves that
have been gilded with an antique gold effect. The cup continues the theme with
a match “D” shaped handle. Both pieces are trimmed with bright gilt to the
edges.
We have listed other collectable ceramics, silver,
watches and jewellery this week, please refer to our other listings.
The cup and saucer set is in very good antique
condition, no damage, or faults to report, some rub wear the cup ring of the
saucer. The photos form part of the condition description.
Measures: cup H5.04cm x max diameter 8.84cm, saucer
14.46cm diameter; 235g combined.
Please look at all the pictures, they are a really important part of the description and condition report.
