Sterling Silver Scent Bottle
This lovely Victorian scent bottle was designed for
a lady’s purse or handbag. It has a silver case decorated with hand engraved
curled acanthus leaves a coat of arms to hinged cap. This gives access to a
clear glass container with stopper with ground edge to prevent leakage. The
sterling silver is hallmarked Birmingham 1885; the maker’s marks are “TJ” for
Thomas Johnson II, Spencer Street, Clerkenwell. The coat of arms has a crest
with a pair of arms holding a fiery ball upon a torse. The legend reads “Serve
and Obey” and is the motto for the City of London Haberdashers Livery Company
Hall. The base is impressed “Haberdashers Hall 1886”

insignificant crease dint to the top only, a stable split to sleeve seam and a
small dint to base with soft solder, all mentioned for accuracy as they don’t
