Victorian HM 1885 Haberdashers Livery Co Crested Sterling Silver Scent Bottle

This lovely Victorian scent bottle was designed for a lady’s purse or handbag. It has a silver case decorated with hand engraved curled acanthus leaves a coat of arms to hinged cap. This gives access to a clear glass container with stopper with ground edge to prevent leakage. The sterling silver is hallmarked Birmingham 1885; the maker’s marks are “TJ” for Thomas Johnson II, Spencer Street, Clerkenwell. The coat of arms has a crest with a pair of arms holding a fiery ball upon a torse. The legend reads “Serve and Obey” and is the motto for the City of London Haberdashers Livery Company Hall. The base is impressed “Haberdashers Hall 1886”
