Era, *Katami-gawari (片身替) pattern in mak-e Nakatsugi Chaki

*Katami-gawari Pattern

The Katami-gawari design emerged in Japan during the vibrant period of the late 16th to early 17th century. It is classified as one of the Kōdaiji maki-e styles.

Characterized by its innovative composition, it features a bold division with lines reminiscent of lightning, contrasting elements such as plants and the seasons of autumn and spring.

This nakatsugi Chaki follows that historical design, with one side adorned with a paulownia motif and the other with a chrysanthemum motif, both executed in intricate maki-e.
