Presented is an antique, sterling silver gravy or sauce ladle made by Gorham around 1875. This piece is in the Lady Washington pattern, which was patented in 1876. The back of the spoon is marked patent applied for, so this piece was made before the patent date. The front of the handle is beautifully decorated with ornate, raised designs surrounding a small portrait or cameo profile of Martha Washington, who was of course the wife of George Washington and the first First Lady! The style of the piece is very Victorian, and the shell form bowl has a light gold wash as well as engraved flourishes.

The handle is marked for Gorham, patent applied for and sterling silver purity.

This piece is in great overall condition, especially considering age. There is very minor surface wear, but the designs are crisp and there are no damages or repairs.

Length: 6 inches.

Weight: 41 grams.
