Winner of the 1977 Gold Dagger award for the best crime novel of the year and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, this is the second novel in the series "The Karla Trilogy" and the sixth novel to feature George Smiley.

In very good condition, the binding is not quite straight but tight, the boards clean except for a small white mark to the front board and the lettering on the spine bright. There is some sun damage to both edges of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from end papers and pages. There is a small mark to the front end paper and foxing to all the edges. There is a neat personal dedication and date to the first free page. 

The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in no better than good condition with loss to the corners, a small tear and nibbling to the top edge of the front cover, nibbling and loss to the top edge of the spine and a very small tear to the bottom edge of the spine. 

Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
