The author's fifth published novel and included in the list of 1001 Books That You Must Read Before You Die. Set in nineteenth-century Australia, this is a story of the secret passion between an explorer and a naive young woman.

This is a First Edition, First Impression in very good condition. The binding is straight and tight if ever so slightly loose, the boards clean and the silver lettering on the spine bright. There is some shelf wear to the bottom edge of the spine. The toned end and slightly foxed papers and pages are free from tears or inscriptions. There are some marks to the fore edge and a mark to the corner of the bottom edge. 

The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in good condition with loss to the bottom edge of the spine, shelf wear to the top edge of the spine, rubbing to the edge of the back cover, a mark halfway down the spine, nibbling to the top edge of the front and back covers and a price sticker to the back cover. 

Rare to find in such good condition, this would make an impressive addition to a library or a wonderful gift.
