Large, thick piece of native copper ore from the Keweenaw Peninsula/ Michigan.
This is a great display piece, as home décor and also a great gift to rock hounds young.

The face of this copper ore has been polished and coated with a clear resin, which prevents oxidation of the copper and will keep it shiny. The back side shows the raw copper ore.

Total weight is 1385 grams (3.05 lbs). Measures 7 x 3 x 1.5 inches and is freestanding.

Within Michigan almost all copper is found in the western portion of the Upper Peninsula (Copper Country). Predominately found in the shape of pure copper (native copper) which is highly unusual. Native Americans were the first to mine and work the copper between 5000 BCE and 1200 BCE. Modern copper mining began in 1841.
