- This is a rare example of the State of Israel Bonds medal with hanger in silver (CM 24a, IGCMC 46.7), 59mm, 90g) that was issued by the state of Israel. It is the first issue type, with the signature of the Prime Minister of Israel Levi Eshkol. Its special importance is that it is inscribed to the famous American Jewish comedian Jack Benny. The lettering of the inscription and hanger exactly match the style of the very few other Bonds medals of this period that are known. It is in very nice condition with no noticeable issues and some small toning flecks. Edge marked State of Israel in English and Hebrew, with menorah.
Jack Benny (Benjamin Kubelsky) was probably the most prominent face for Israel Bonds during the early years of the state’s existence and was recognized for his decades-long work many times. This medal was purchased in a William Rosenblum auction of September 1995, and a corroborating email from this prominent dealer in Jewish and Israeli numismatic material accompanies this unique medal.
